February 29, 2008 - The BankAtlantic Center is located in Sunrise, Florida, a western suburb of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Construction for the center began in October of 1996 and opened on October 3, 1998. The project cost $185 million which was mostly publicly financed.

Former names of the Arena include Broward County Civic Arena (1998), National Car Rental Center (1998-2002) and Office Depot Center (2002-2005). The center is home to the Florida Panthers (NHL), the Florida Pit Bulls (ABA), the Florida Bobcats (AFL), and the Florida ThunderCats (NPSL). During basketball games, the center can hold 20,737 people, and during hockey games can hold 19,250 people.
