However, a number of their Coaches and General Managers have made it into the NHL Hall of Fame, including their first Head Coach Roger Neilson (1993-95) who was inducted in 2002 for his coaching career, and President and General Manager Bill Torrey (1993-2001) who was inducted in 1995 for his management career.

February 29, 2008 - The Panthers have received the Prince of Wales Trophy in 1995-96 season and Pavel Bure won the Rocket Richard Trophy in 1999-00 and again in 2000-01.
The Rat
February 29, 2008 - The 1995-96 season was the beginning of the most unusual goal celebration to take place in the NHL. In the locker room prior to the game a rat scurried across the floor and Scott Mellanby reacted by slapshoting the rat into the wall which killed it. The same night, Mellanby scored two goals which goalkeeper John Vanbiesbrouck called a "rat trick".
The story made its way across Florida and the world, which led to fans throwing rubber rats onto the ice to celebrate a goal. The number of rats that fell on the ice went from 16 at the third home game to 2,000+ during the playoffs.
Strangely enough, 1996 is the Chinese Year of the Rat according to Chinese Astrology. It was an interesting night for the Florida Panthers, to say the least.
